In Memory of
Cherry Stubbs 1915-2004
Secretary, Northwest Branch U.S. Christian Commission
We say goodbye to a faithful friend………
Cherry C. Stubbs went home to be with her Lord on February
16, 2004 after a five-month struggle with cancer. She was 88 years old and
had been living the past year and a half at Covenant Village retirement
community after selling her home near Long Lake, Minnesota.
Cherry retired in 1973 after 32 years with the U.S. State Department. Throughout
her career, she had lived in 12 difference countries and had learned 6 languages
and 12 dialects.
Since her retirement, she had been actively involved in many mission organizations
and care ministries besides being attentive to local, state, and national
government proceedings and world affairs.
The U.S. Christian Commission was one such organization in which she took
a special interest. She first took part in 1995 and in 1998 became a board
member. She then assumed the role of secretary in 1999 and continued to
serve in this capacity until her death. Her prayer and financial support
has been a tremendous encouragement to the organization. She took a special
interest in seeing the reprinting of several Civil War era publications
including the Army/Navy Hymn Book and the devotional book entitled “Chaplet
of Flowers”.
Two brothers, two sisters, and numerous friends and relatives survive her.
A memorial service was held on February 19, 2004 at Maple Plain Community
Church, Maple Plain, Minnesota.
